Tell me I am ignorant (I guess I am) but interestingly I found out a way to tweak my D50. I remembered I used to have only 5 settings and now I have 20 settings available. I think I was just too lazy to read the manual (but I think I RTFM!). I found out on the website that I can do this on my D50. Thanks to the Internet!

Halloween at the office
Our team was celebrating halloween lunch @ Bali conference room. I was participating in the contest, even though my outfit was bad because it's free (lol... obviously). All I need was some papers, tapes, some creativity, and of course, some help from my Japanese Friend, Toshi. I ended up getting Lindt Truffels for the prize (yes, I didn't win the contest!), winner got a diary book (Cool, I think the prize for non-winners were better). Click on the image below and enjoy! Happy Halloween everyone.

Canon 400D or Canon 30D?
I ordered my Canon 400D (Rebel XTI) from Dell and since it's backordered, it'll be shipped around 11/21/2006 (not GREAT!...). And this time frame gave me time to think about another option beside the Canon Rebel XTI, the canon 30D. 30D offers better options (5fps, 1/8000 shutter speed, and ISO 3200). It seems that the canon rebel XTI features are very similar to my Nikon D50 (This camera can only do so much).
My mind has been going back and forth with no clear winner between the two cameras. The XTI has more Mpx, bigger screen, dust shaker, improved focus, and lighter. It's very hard to decide! It was quite a problematic dilemma to choose those two.
I made up my mind and shoot for Canon Rebel XTI and probably wait until the new Canon 40D to come out. I hope I made a wise decision *sigh...*

Experimenting with Nikon D50
I wanted to go to 1/2 moon bay today to take pictures, but the plan foiled. Since I had nothing to do, I did some experiments @ home, using my Nikon D50 camera and my Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5 DX lens.
Experiment with fast shutter speed and its relationship to noise level. Fast Shutter speed test: 1/4000 sec, ISO 800. Turns out very nice without much noise (I tried with ISO 1600 and boy it was messy).
Another Experiment using light and laws of physics. It turned out to have interesting outcomes. this picture is blurry and that's what exactly I wanted!
This is the same experiment with the above picture, combinning physics and optical properties to create some patterns that I have never seen before in my life. It's pushing the camera beyond way beyond of what it can do. It's actually different what I expected from the camera viewfinder, but it turned out to be a lot better. And if you notice, the patterns are not actually 100% circle, it's somewhat hexagon patterns. I was thinking it must have something to do with aperture shape of the camera.
Possibilities are endless. Learn and keep trying! You'll never know what you can create with your imagination, unless you try it.

Japanese Tea Garden Experience
I went to the Japanese tea garden yesterday in San Francisco. It was a nice experience but the entrance fee was $4/person + $6 parking/hour + $ for gas. (their website stated that the entrance fee is $2). The place was very crowded and took me a while to take pictures of objects without human interference. At the end, I am pretty satisfied since I took all the pictures that I wanted. Unfortunately my 1GB SD card was maxed out at the end of the trip, around 136 Nikon RAW pictures. Click on the image below to see the pictures.
While I was there in SF, I could not miss a chance at my favorite restaurant, bamboo village. As usual, I ordered 1 siomay bandung (fish cake) and some new stuff: kari ayam (curry chicken) and Cumi goreng mentega (Stir fried squid). Both dishes were very good, but the kari ayam has a new flavor that I never tasted before. Good deal and as usual, I was happy going back from SF with my tummy full.
